Here are the emails I have sent out every Friday to introduce Deacon Michael’s sermons. For the most part, they are personal stories which relate to the subject of the sermon. The most recent emails are at the top.

Friday, August 26, 2020 Don’t Worry God, I Can Handle This.

Dear family and friends,

There is a joke about a businessman who had a very important meeting downtown with a client who would not tolerate tardiness. He knew if he was not there on time, the client would simply leave. He could not find a parking spot and became more and more desperate. As he circled his client's building for what seemed like the 100th time he said a desperate prayer. "Please God, if you give me a parking spot right now, I promise that I will be a better Christian and pray every day and give up my bad life." Almost immediately someone pulled out of a spot right in front of the building he wanted. He said, "Never mind God. I've got this."

Okay, we probably aren't as blind to God's blessings as the man in the joke was, but he had a lot of practice. He knew he could be better, but had been putting it off.

Today I spoke to someone at the cemetery whom I had spoken with several times about God in our lives. She is a dear, dear soul to me and to God. She has had many horrible things happen to her, and wants to have God in her life. She wants her children to get out of the evil atmosphere in which they live. She tries to teach them about God.

But she had just recently been in a one-car accident and she said to me. "I won't lie to you, Laura. I was DUI, but this was a wake up call. From now on, I am going to try really hard to be good." I told her, "You are going to fail. You cannot do it with your own strength. Only God can overcome the evil that is around you. You say you know that God saved your life so that you could have another chance, and you are right. He took your life out of your own control and saved you from the death you deserved because He loves you. Surrender you life to Him. He will always do what is best, and you won't. Every morning when you get up, surrender you life to Him, and turn to Him all day long. Then you will succeed. By yourself, you will fail."

I have to say that to myself, too. The devil never stops trying to distract us, and God is always waiting patiently for us to turn to Him.

Deacon Michael does another great job of saying what all of us need to hear.
